Free agent defensive end Jabaal Sheard is visiting with the Detroit Lions, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Sheard, 31, played for two seasons (2015-16) with the New England Patriots when Detroit coach Matt Patricia was Bill Belichick's defensive coordinator. They won Super Bowl LI together.

He spent the last three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, appearing in 13 games (12 starts) in 2019 and notching 25 tackles, nine quarterback hits and 4.5 sacks.

The Colts opted not to re-sign Sheard, who finished out a three-year, $25.5 million deal in 2019.

A second-round pick by Cleveland in the 2011 NFL Draft, Sheard has 387 tackles, 51.5 sacks and 13 forced fumbles in 134 games (103 starts) with the Browns (2011-14), Patriots and Colts.

The Lions are off to an 0-2 start and have recorded just two sacks. They take on the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in Glendale, Ariz.
